I'm a married woman in my late thirties. A couple of years ago I met a man through a Craigslist ad for strictly platonic friends. He is married and neither of our spouses have any idea we are secretly emailing each other. We have probably exchanged hundreds of email messages. Is emailing someone like this considered having an affair in some odd fashion?

He too is bored in his marriage and I'll have to admit some of our emails have been quite steamy. But, that's as far as it has gone. I still love my husband and he's OK in the bedroom but sometimes I find myself dreaming about being with my married email friend. I know this will most likely never happen but the thought of meeting him someday for a secret encounter excites me. What are your thoughts? Do you consider exchanging emails secretly with another man the same as cheating or having an affair?

Secretly emailing someone of the opposite sex is more common that most people realize and many affairs happen as a result of these email communications. Is emailing the same as cheating? Well, I guess it would depend on who you ask. I personally don't think it is but it could lead to it. Some would consider it harmless fun as long as it remains as a email message. Others would say even though there is no contact that you are still having an affair emotionally with your email partner.
